This course is suitable for a range of professionals who come into contact with people who may be using drugs, such as, specialist drugs workers, youth support workers, school or college support staff, housing workers, connexions workers, community workers etc.

The use of ketamine is on the rise, especially amongst young people. This drug doesn’t fit neatly into the categories of drugs you might have covered on general drugs awareness courses. So come along and learn more about it.

Did you know…

Ketamine is a complex drug with an unusual combination of stimulant and hallucinogenic properties.
There is increasing evidence of young people using substances, such as, ketamine, GHB, steroids, mephedrone and a range of legal highs.
In a recent study increased use was found in nine out of 20 studied areas: London, Birmingham, Newcastle, Ipswich, Bristol, Blackpool, Portsmouth, Nottingham and Sheffield
The problems Ketamine is causing in Barnsley has been featured in the local Barnsley Chronicle over the passed few weeks

The course covers:

Up to date information about the effects, risks and patterns of Ketamine use in the UK
Harm reduction strategies for working with Ketamine users

Provides underpinning knowledge towards the following DANOS units:

AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects
HSC335 Contribute to the protection of individuals from harm and abuse
AB2 Support individuals who are substance users
