Debra Chalmers - Senior Trainer
Debra Chalmers has a Bsc(Hons) in Health Studies and PGCE Post Compulsory (Health & Social Care). Debra has experience of working in a range of health and social care settings with different client groups. She has been a lecturer within further education and has been a Life Skills Worker in residential project for young homeless people. Debra has also trained and has experience as a Cognitive Behavioural Counsellor, working with people with drug and alcohol issues.
What do you do? I currently lead on and oversee the 'Young people & Substance Use' programme, which has been commissioned by North Yorkshire County Council and Drug Action Team
What is the best thing about your job? Helping people develop the knowledge, understanding and skills to support people with substance use issues and those affected by substance use. Enabling people to have positive and effective learning experiences
And the hardest? Keeping up to date with a subject that is constantly evolving and changing
What makes you really happy? Going walking with my dog
And what makes you angry? Bigotry
What are you most proud of in your career so far? My qualifications and my role as a Senior Trainer at DrugTrain. Working with DrugTrain has enabled me to fulfil my career ambitions and work within my own values
