This course is for people working in the mental health field and other health and social care professions. It covers the relationship between problematic drug use and mental health problems, and some practical approaches for working with people with co-existing mental health problems and problematic substance use.
Provides underpinning knowledge towards the following DANOS units:
AA1 Recognise indications of substance misuse and refer individuals to specialists
AI1 Counsel individuals about there substance use using recognised theoretical models

‘Dual Diagnosis’ is a challenging area of work. DrugTrain runs two main kinds of
courses on this topic – those for drug and alcohol workers (if you want that one look
at ‘Understanding Dual Diagnosis and/or Working with Dual Diagnosis) and those for
people working in the mental health field and other health and social care
professions. This course is aimed at the latter. It covers the relationship between
problematic drug use and mental health problems, and some practical approaches
for working with people with co-existing mental health problems and problematic
substance use.
