Dual Diagnosis
2 Day Course

This course is for individuals who work with people who have mental health problems, e.g. support workers, mental health workers, mental health social workers, mental health nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, housing workers and probation officers etc. It addresses the needs of service users with moderate problems relating to substance use and mental health.
The course covers:
- Knowledge and understanding of dual dignosis issues and key guidance
- Knowledge and understanding of drug and alcohol awareness issues with a particular focus on cannabis, alcohol, stimulant drugs and new patterns of drug use
- Knowledge and understanding of the management of substance misuse problems
- Understanding the Cycle of Change with relation to substance misuse
- The basic elements of Motivational Interviewing
- Understand basic Relapse Prevention techniques for substance misuse
- Discuss safeguarding issues in relation to Dual Diagnosis
