This course will focus on the spirit of motivational interviewing and some techniques to use with individuals. This course has a particular focus on using motivational interviewing in relation to substance use issues. However, motivational interviewing can be used to support people with a range of needs. You will find it an invaluable skill and will be able to apply your learning to working with a range of issues. This is a key skill for working with young people or adults.
This course is suitable both for those new to motivational interviewing and as a refresher for those who want to brush up their techniques.
Provides underpinning knowledge towards the following DANOS units:
AB2 Support Individuals who are Substance Users
AI1 Counsel individuals about their substance use using recognised theoretical models
AI3 Counsel groups of individuals about their substance use using recognised theoretical models.
