NICE published new guidelines for Needle and Syringe Programmes this year – are you up to date on good practice? You will be, after this course.

AH3 Supply and exchange
equipment for individuals
AB5 Assess and act upon immediate
risks of danger to substance users
HSC3111 Promote people’s
equality, diversity and rights

The course covers:
- Understand the NICE 2009 guidelines for Needle and Syringe Programmes
- Understand and know how to manage challenging behaviour in needle and syringe programmes
- Have increased awareness of the prevalence and transmission routes of blood borne viruses (HIV, HEP B and Hep C)
- Be able to raise the issue of blood borne viruses with service users and give appropriate advice regarding testing, vaccination and treatment
- Be able to promote safer injecting practice and overdose prevention
- Be able to use brief advice techniques to encourage injectors to move away from injecting and to access treatment services
