Understanding Alcohol

Provides underpinning knowledge towards the following DANOS units:
AD1 Raise awareness about substances, their use and effects
HSC335 Contribute to the protections of individuals from harm and abuse
AB2 Support individuals who are substance users

If your work brings you into contact with young people or adults, then you almost certainly come into contact with people drinking hazardously. There are nearly 1 million hazardous drinkers in the Yorkshire and Humber Region. This course will help you understand the issues.
The course covers:
- The nature and extent of alcohol use in the UK
- An overview of the physical, psychological and social effects of alcohol, including the risks of hazardous and harmful drinking
- Understanding the Government strategy: (Safe. Sensible. Social. The next steps in the National Alcohol Strategy 2007)
- The current guidance around safer alcohol use
